A Public/Private Partnership Helping Victims of Domestic Abuse With Dental Care

With funding from the Shirley E. Noland Foundation a public private partnership is nowdentistteen in place to help victims of domestic violence access free dental care. The funding will provide dental care for survivors of domestic violence through the Hand Up Dental Clinic at the Brevard County Health Department.

The Hand Up Dental Clinic program was established through the combined efforts of the Shirley E. Noland Foundation, Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine (SCVIM) and the Brevard County Health Department.

Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine is a non-profit 501(c)3 that provides free medical, dental and chiropractic care to the uninsured of Brevard County. The program is designed for Brevard residents between the ages of 19 to 64 who meet income eligibility requirements. Those requirements are listed in detail on the SCVIM web site at www.spacecoastvolunteersinmedicine.org

According to Executive Director, Paul Ringenberger, “We look forward to working with Dr. Heshmati of the Health Department, as well as Program Coordinator, Chris Tullos. It is our desire that our combined efforts on this project will lead to future collaborations with the team at the Health Department; they place care for those in need as their primary mission.”

The Hand Up Dental Clinic will provide dental services for women, children, and men, who have suffered dental trauma as a result of domestic violence.

Individuals should call the Brevard County Health Department at (321) 383-2784 to schedule an appointment with the Hand Up Dental Clinic. Individuals in need of additional information regarding this program, as well as other dental services provided by SCVIM, should contact Dental Director Irene Theriault at 321-914-0915.

In late April of 2013 Space Coast Volunteers in Medicine will celebrate its two-year anniversary. SCVIM is funded by grants, donations and fund raising events.
